1959 Land-Rover Series II 88" 2.25 Petrol

Offered on behalf of the customer is this early Series II (2) Land-Rover which we have been storing since we completed a sympathetic refurbishment. It comes with both hardtop (with catflap rear door) and canvas as shown.

First registered in April 1959 it is fitted with its original 3 bearing 2.25 petrol engine complete with Solex carburettor. One of only 450 of this particular model built. It has just 2 former keepers, having spent most of its 67year life in London, stored mostly in underground car parks with an indicated mileage that has just ticked over 15,000  on the odometer. ​It comes with a Heritage Certificate  confirming it retains the original colour and was dispatched to Henly's of London on 7th April 1959.

Whilst it retains many of its factory features, such as Lucas wiper motors, bulkhead vent twist knobs & grey " elephant hide" front seats, it has been fitted with a non-original (though working) cab heater /demister and has undergone a respray (in period Marine Blue) at some point in its life. It sits on a matching set of 5x pattern (Flamingo) 600x16 tubed tyres which are in excellent condition.

We replaced the chassis with a Richards galvanized Series II replica version in 2024 due to some poor patch welding on the original. While this was done we also took the opportunity to rewire the entire vehicle with a period AutoSparks harness, fitting glass Lucas-type side, brake and indicator lamps. All brake lines, fuel hoses, body fixings and suspension bushes were replaced while the chassis was replaced. Gearbox and transfer box have had new gaskets and bearing fitted. The brakes have also been overhauled.

The entire vehicle was checked over, with all fluids replaced and it then underwent an independent MOT in April 2025.

Due to being purchased by the current owner out of a probate sale, there is no history or paperwork save the current V5, heritage certificate and invoice copies from work carried out since its acquisition.
